Chrysalis Series: Wing Formation
A hand-felted and needle sculpted ethically sourced Teeswater wool relief mounted on clear polycarbonate (48 × 32 in; wool form approx. 21 × 30 in; depth 0.25 in), created in Missoula, Montana. Mounted with matte gold standoffs. This work holds a precise moment in the chrysalis—when wings begin to take shape just beneath the surface, subtle and undeniable, the way human hands form in the quiet dark of the womb before they are seen. Soft layers of wool gather like breath and shelter, suspended in a field of air and light, inviting you to lean in and sense what’s becoming rather than what’s finished. There’s a spiritual quality here—an unfolding into the butterfly, or into a new human in these times—where movement is tender but powerful, and transformation doesn’t announce itself so much as it arrives, gently, from within.
